LOOK AT ME

Another amazing foto archive.. but this one is my favorite.. today for instance, I found this lovely woman throughout the seasons.. doing different activities and somehow remaining the same.

//www.moderna.org/lookatme/

This is my fave song from the monks. I found this flashy video on youtube, some dude in Israel put it together and I quite like it. It has the same vibe as the fotos and it all just ties in together so nicely. Perfect Sunday afternoon soundtrack, man.

NO LEGA NORD NO RAZZISMO DAY

Today in Milan there was "NO LEGA NORD DAY". The Lega Nord party is a political party based in northern Italy, founded in 1991. This party is openly xenophobic and anti-immigration. Members of this party are very vocal about their feelings towards anybody that does not share their "Padania" heritage.

The leader of Lega Nord, Umberto Bossi, was quoted in a 2003 interview calling immigrants from Africa "Bingo Bongos". Another charming statement comes from Giancarlo Gentelini, who was the mayor of Treviso when he suggested that "We should dress them up like hares and bang bang bang" in reference to the "immigration slackers" in Treviso. Then we have Mario Borghezio, who is a member of Italian Congress and who has been CONVICTED of arson, by setting fire to pallets, on which immigrants were sleeping, under a bridge near Turin during a vigilante raid. He was sentenced to two months jail time, before returning to Congress... but this is only one fun fact for old Borghezio, he has also been found spraying disinfectant onto the seats of a train where Nigerian women had previously been sitting.

Let's just say that racism is growing stronger stronger in Northern Italy thanks to the Lega Nord group, and there are no consequences for blatant acts of hate and rage towards innocent people who are just trying to integrate into society.

So, today there was a protest against this hateful group in stazione centrale in Milan. I was surprised to see how few people were there today... considering all of the evidence against this group, and how they are obstructing the growth and integration of Italy as a country. I mean, regardless of your views on immigration and what is the best way to "deal with it"... hate and violence is obviously never the answer. Especially when it is executed by people in powerful government positions.

NEW ON STRUT

I Want This Album. New on Strut records.. which is always turning out compilations so well researched it's scary. Strut is the Boss. Punto. Here is part of their description of the album.
Strut follow their recent forays into Nigerian and Ethio grooves with a brand new wide-ranging three-part series exploring underground South African music during the late ‘60s and ‘70s, NEXT STOP SOWETO - Volume 1 explores the vibrant energy of the township jive sound, whilst Volumes 2 and 3, released across Spring and Summer 2010, cover rare SA soul, funk & Hammond R&B and the country’s rich jazz scene.
Jazz had been a fixture in South African music since the ‘50s and jive (or mbaqanga) initially emerged a decade later as a fusion combining elements of rural Zulu music and harmony vocal styles with Western instrumentation. Early stars like “groaner” Simon Mahlathini, Nkabinde and the Mahotella Queens were key in developing a colourful, danceable sound and a competitive scene began to flourish during the late ‘60s with rival female groups like Izintombi Zesi Manje Manje gaining in popularity.

ALABAMA

Speaking of a 90's interpretation of the 50's... we musn't forget about the queen of characters Miss Alabama Whitman.. in the amazing True Romance. She is a shining example of this particular look which I have been enchanted by this season, it's cheap and wrong... but oh so alluring. Not to mention it makes me want to go lose myself in the desert with my guy.. (sans killing spree, so messy)
